Monotherapy & adjunctive therapy in the treatment of complex partial seizures, Sole & adjunctive therapy in the treatment of simple & complex absence seizures, Prophylaxis of migraine headaches.
How it works
Divalproex sodium is a stable coordination compound comprised of sodium valproate and valproic acid used to treat manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder, epilepsy, and migraine headaches.Divalproex sodium dissociates to the valproate ion in the gastrointestinal tract. The mechanisms by which valproate exerts its therapeutic effects have not been established. It has been suggested that its activity in epilepsy is related to increased brain concentrations of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
Indications
Monotherapy & adjunctive therapy in the treatment of complex partial seizures, Sole & adjunctive therapy in the treatment of simple & complex absence seizures, Prophylaxis of migraine headaches.
