Several segments have been covered in the Cardio Nutshell series issue 3. The first segment covers a case report on the management of a pregnant patient with long QT3 syndrome. This case proposes the use of a sodium channel blocker (mexiletine) and a beta-blocker in the third trimester of pregnancy for effective and well-tolerated medical management of LQT3 patients.
In the following section, the European Society of Cardiology Asia 2021, in collaboration with the Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology and the Asean Federation of Cardiology, organized a conference on December 2nd and 4th, 2021. The author hypothesized that COVID-19 patients with a high neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio at admission are more likely to have abnormal transthoracic echocardiography findings.
Furthermore, another segment includes the recent creation of a portable electrocardiogram that is available in the slimmest card design. Lastly, the topic covers the clinical effectiveness and tolerability of mexiletine in patients with recurrent ventricular arrhythmias and ischemic heart disease.
