How it works
Milk of magnesia is a type of hyperosmotic laxative. This kind of oral laxative works by drawing water to the bowel from nearby tissue. This softens and moistens the stool. It also helps increase bowel activity.
Liquid paraffin: It acts as a lubricant and stool softener and eases the passage of stools.
Indications
Acute Constipation – Idiopathic constipation
Habitual constipation – Pre and post operative condition
Dosage
15ml at bedtime with adequate amount of water.
Side Effects
Milk of magnesia: Weakness, nausea, vomiting.
Liquid paraffin: Anal seepage or irritation, granulomatous reactions, pneumonia – this may happen if this medicine is accidentally inhaled
