(Sulfasalazine 500/1000mg Delayed Release Enteric Coated tablet)
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Psoriatic arthritis
• Arthritis associated with inflammatory bowel disease (sometimes known as IBD)
• Juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
How it works
Sulfasalazine is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD). It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis, prevent joint damage, and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Approximately 30 percent of orally administered sulfasalazine, which therapeutically is a relatively inactive chemical, is rapidly absorbed by the small bowel and is then returned, largely unaltered, via the enterohepatic circulation into the bile. Thus, approximately 90 percent of the ingested drug reaches the large intestine as an intact molecule
