How it works
Levosulpiride is more selective and acts primarily as a dopamine D2 antagonist. Levosulpiride appears to lack effects on norepinephrine, acetylcholine, serotonin, histamine, or gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors. A selective antagonist of dopamine (D2) receptors having activity on both central and peripheral levels. It posses prokinetic and neuroleptic properties. Dopamine (acting through D2 receptors) is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in GIT which; Delays gastric emptying when food is present in stomach. Levosulpiride blocks dopamine (D2) receptors and shows opposite effects to dopamine. It Increases gastric emptying Enhances LES (Lower esopharyngeal sphincter) tone. Levosupiride has centrally action on Chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) producing anti-emetic action.
